Brief Description of Evidence:
This artifact
consists of several PowerPoint slides I
created over the course of the semester
which clearly explain the content being
covered in English for that day. These
PowerPoint presentations were always an
appendix to my written lesson plans. Instead
of detailing the content and examples being
used in my daily lesson plans, I often
attached a print-out of the PowerPoint
slides to be used with the instructions “Use
PowerPoint ‘English Lessons’ to introduce
topic and work through examples.” All of the
new information students needed for that
lesson, as well as all the examples we would
need for
that day, were placed in the
PowerPoint presentation.

Analysis of What I
Learned:
After creating
so many PowerPoint presentations, I
discovered that in many ways having to
create a PowerPoint presentation requires
more planning and forethought than a lesson
plan alone does. Not only are you planning
out the lesson but you’re also choosing
specific examples in advance, planning out
what you’re going to do with these examples
step-by-step, and preemptively assessing
students’ individual strengths and
weaknesses by pre-planning questions.
How This Artifact
Demonstrates my Competence on the INTASC
Principle:
This artifact
demonstrates my content knowledge in that I
was able to examine the material we were
studying that day, extract the pertinent
information, and create PowerPoint slides
filled with the information students needed
to know. I was also able to generate a
variety of example problems to use in class
as well. This artifact demonstrates that I
understand the central concepts, tools of
inquiry, and structures of the disciplines I
teach and I can create learning experiences
that make these aspects of subject matter
meaningful to students. |
