Brief Description of Evidence:
This artifact
is a collection of
PowerPoint slides I
created to teach math. For most math
lessons, I created anywhere from one to six
slides to teach the concept for that day.
Every slide was animated in some form,
allowing key points to be highlighted and
then taken
away. Most
importantly, every algebraic problem was
able
to be shown step by step. Each number was
able to come in at the appropriate time,
just as though it was being written on the
overhead.

Analysis of What I
Learned:
Students love
animated PowerPoint presentations. As
interesting or uninteresting as they might
find the concept, they will always pay
attention to a lesson when there are objects
flashing and flying around the screen. My
students actually looked forward to each
day’s lesson, asking if there would be any
“woo’s” (their code word for objects flying
around the screen) that day. At first I was
concerned it would be too hard for me to
create PowerPoint slides every day and take
too much time. But once I started doing it,
I actually found it to be extremely easy and
fun. I really enjoyed creating these
presentations for my students and I was glad
my students enjoyed them as well.
How This Artifact

Principle:
This artifact
demonstrates my willingness and competency
to incorporate technology in the classroom.
I am quite proficient with the PowerPoint
program so I was comfortable integrating it
daily into my classroom. The presentations
were grade appropriate and extremely
appealing to students. This artifact
demonstrates that I have knowledge of
effective verbal, nonverbal, and media
communication techniques to foster active
inquiry, collaboration, and supportive
interaction in the classroom. |
