a.
Students will begin the lesson with the following
journal prompt: “Write about a time when you were
seriously sick or injured. Explain what happened, what
was wrong, and how you got better.” Provide examples for
students such as a broken arm, a surgery they had, or
even a very severe illness.

Today we will begin our unit on the human body systems.

with how the story should be read so that it flows
smoothly.
ii.
Anticipate student questions and be comfortable with the
body systems identified. Be able to provide own input
into story.

to students. Make sure story is read smoothly so
students won’t get confused.
ii. Ask students
questions throughout the story.
6.
Practice/Application
a. Upon
completion of the story, have students go back to their
seats and engage in a classroom discussion. Relate the
story to the previous two weeks’ spelling words.

Do you recognize any spelling words found in the text?
ii.
What do those spelling words mean?
b. Have
students make a list of the concepts they remember from
the story and make note of any questions they still
have.
7. Evaluation of Student Learning
a.
After reading and discussing the book The Magic
School Bus: Inside the Human Body, students will
each take the corresponding computer test from the
Accelerated Reader program. By doing this, students are
not only assessed on their retention of the story but
they also get credit towards their Accelerated Reader
points for the nine weeks term.
8. Closure
a. Ask
students to explain what they wrote about the concepts
they remember from the story. Also discuss student
questions formulated after the reading. |
