Philosophy of Education

Children are the key to the future, and education is the key to their future. Every child has the potential to bring something unique to this world and it’s my job as a teacher to nurture each child and develop that potential. I want to help each child discover who he or she is as a person. I believe that it’s the teacher’s responsibility to create a classroom environment that students want to be a part of and feel comfortable in. I believe in the Humanistic philosophy which allows students to have some control in their classroom. Students can share ideas through class meetings and discussions, allowing them to voice their opinions on matters such as classroom rules. I believe in developing lifeskills students will use for the rest of their lives and teaching children how to become responsible for themselves and their learning. I believe in teaching through a constructivist approach, allowing students to facilitate their own learning through investigations. This is extremely meaningful in mathematics, my primary area of study. When students are allowed to discover processes and theorems on their own they have a much better chance at not only remembering them but understanding them as well. I believe I was chosen to be a teacher for a reason. The role of an educator is definitely not for the faint-hearted but I know I am up for the challenge.
