Hi friends, it’s Megan K. Strawberry season is finally here & I’m berry excited to share all the juicy details. From their irresistible sweetness to their surprising benefits, these little red gems are the stars of spring & this is everything you need to know to make the most of them!

As the days grow longer and warmer, one of nature’s sweetest gifts returns to the spotlight—strawberries. Bursting with flavor, color, and health benefits, strawberries are a seasonal favorite with a lot more to offer than just their good looks. Whether you’re a dedicated foodie, a health-conscious eater, or just looking for delicious ways to enjoy the summer, here’s your complete guide to strawberry season, their health benefits, and how to make the most of them in your kitchen.

When Do Strawberries Make Their Grand Entrance?

Strawberry season typically kicks off in late spring and peaks from May through June in most of the United States, although in warmer regions like California and Florida, they can appear as early as January. For the juiciest, most flavorful berries, look for locally grown strawberries at your nearest farmers' market or pick-your-own farm during peak season. Their short shelf life makes fresh, local berries far superior to out-of-season imports in both taste and nutrition.

Strawberries | Tiny Berries, Big Benefits

Don’t let their sweetness fool you—strawberries are a powerhouse of nutrients:

  • Rich in Antioxidants — Strawberries are loaded with vitamin C, anthocyanins, and other antioxidants that help reduce inflammation and support immune health.

  • Heart Health — Regular consumption of strawberries has been linked to lower LDL (bad) cholesterol levels and improved heart function.

  • Supports Skin & Hair — Vitamin C plays a vital role in collagen production, promoting youthful skin and strong hair.

  • Low in Calories, High in Fiber — One cup of strawberries contains under 50 calories and 3 grams of fiber, making them a perfect snack for weight management.

  • Six Ingredient Homemade Strawberry Ice Cream Recipe:

Ingredients:

1½ cups fresh strawberries or frozen

4 cups heavy cream or half & half

⅔ cup granulated sugar

Pinch salt

1 tsp lemon zest

1½ tsp pure vanilla extract

Directions:

Put strawberries into a food processor or blender. Pulse strawberries until rough/finely chopped, set aside. In a medium bowl, use a hand mixer on low speed or whisk to combine the cream, sugar & salt until the sugar is dissolved. Stir in the vanilla. Stir in reserved strawberries with all juices. Cover & refrigerate 1-2 hours, or overnight. Turn on the Cuisinart® ice cream maker; press the ice cream button & pour the mixture in. The ice cream will have a soft, creamy texture. If a firmer consistency is desired, transfer the ice cream to an airtight container & place in the freezer for about 2 hours. Remove from the freezer about 15 minutes before serving. Enjoy!

Tips for Buying and Storing Strawberries | Keeping Berries Happy & Fresh!

  • Choose Wisely: Look for bright red berries with fresh green caps. Avoid any that look dull or mushy.

  • Don’t Wash Until Ready to Eat: Strawberries absorb moisture easily, so keep them dry until just before eating.

  • Store in the Fridge: Place unwashed berries in a shallow container lined with paper towels & cover loosely.
